To those in the know, the popular Swiss ski resort of Zermatt needs little introduction. Renowned as an intermediate’s paradise, endless linked runs cascade down the mountain from the mighty Matterhorn Glacier to a pretty alpine village. With some of the highest slopes in Europe, epic snow is on the agenda, and jaw-dropping panoramas of the Swiss Alps appear beyond every ridge. And that’s not all!
Powderhounds and freeride junkies can drop in on over 38km of off-piste terrain. We’re talking deep powder pockets, natural kickers, and steep wooded verticals. It’s what ski dreams are made of! So whether you’re an intermediate cruiser, or more advanced, this huge and varied ski area will take your breath away (if the scenery hasn’t already).
NEW TRAIN TRANSFER OPTION - you can now transfer by train from the airport, for a more environmentally friendly (and often cheaper) option. Win win!
Our score is based on resort data; it reflects current forecasts, not guaranteed snow quality, and applies to the ski area, not specific resorts. Conditions can change quickly.

Best time to ski in Zermatt
The sky-high altitude means Zermatt has a mint snow record, and the hardworking piste bashers keep the slopes pristine from November to early May. But the season doesn’t end there.
If you fancy a bit of summer skiing, catch a gondola up to the Matterhorn from May onwards for some sweet glacier runs in the sunshine. Summer skiing, here we come!
Festival-goers will love Zermatt Unplugged in April. And check out the events calendar for dates for the FIS World Cup to see some of the world’s best skiers speed race down the tour’s only cross-border slalom course.
Things to do in Zermatt
Picture this. Traditional wooden chalets line the streets, and horse-drawn sleighs trot through picture-perfect snowy meadows. Welcome to the heart of Zermatt. But don’t be fooled; this resort is much more than just a pretty face.
The apres scene has an energetic vibe, and skiers flock to buzzing mountain huts for live music in the sunshine before heading into town to gourmet restaurants, glitzy bars and world-class nightclubs.
Fancy some retail therapy? Luxury boutiques and cosy delis await. Or, for the best views of the Matterhorn, soar into bluebird skies on a paragliding tour.
